Nelson | Bye Leadership Search is honored to partner with Community Action Partnership of Ramsey & Washington Counties (CAPRW) to find its next CFO. CAPRW is a deeply mission-driven organization advancing generational prosperity through Head Start, energy assistance, financial opportunity programs, and other critical community services across Ramsey and Washington counties. The Role: Under the direction of the CEO, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides strategic leadership and oversight of the agency's financial health to advance its mission and goals. The CFO ensures strong financial stewardship of all public and private resources. The CFO will direct and oversee accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow, and audit activities in accordance with federal, state, local, and funder requirements. This is an exciting opportunity to bring strategic financial leadership to a complex, multi-funded human services organization with long-standing federal, state, and local funding streams. The CFO will stabilize and strengthen financial infrastructure, foster trust across programs and operations, and serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO, leadership team, program teams, and Board of Directors. The CFO will play a critical role in ensuring compliance, improving financial clarity, and supporting program leaders with timely, accurate, and mission-aligned financial insight. The ideal CFO candidate is an experienced nonprofit finance executive who brings deep expertise in federal and state grant management and other complex public funding streams. This leader combines strategic financial stewardship with hands-on operational excellence. They are an experienced manager who can mentor and develop a high-performing finance team and strengthen internal controls and systems. The ideal candidate is also a collaborative partner to executive leadership, program teams, HR, IT, and the Board of Directors, able to translate financial information for non-financial audiences and foster trust across the agency. The CFO will bring: Leadership & Approach A thoughtful, confident leadership style with the ability to provide perspective and guide decisions Comfort operating in complexity and evolving environments A collaborative approach, paired with the ability to bring clarity and move work forward Execution & Operational Strength Experience building structure, systems, and consistency within a finance function Ability to balance day-to-day execution with longer-term improvement A track record of leading teams and building trust, particularly in environments that have experienced change Financial & Technical Expertise Strong nonprofit financial leadership experience, including government grants, reporting, and compliance Deep understanding of complex, multi-source funding environments Ability to bring clarity and insight to financial data and reporting Partnership & Communication Ability to translate financial information into clear, actionable insights for non-financial leaders Experience partnering across functions to support alignment and decision-making Clear, transparent communicator who builds trust with leadership and board members Experience Nonprofit financial leadership experience, including experience with government grants, required; Community Action experience preferred Experience navigating complex, evolving funding environments *This is an in-person role based in the St. Paul office. Candidates should be available to work on-site, with the option to work remotely one day per week.
