Our client seeks an Underwriting Manager and will supervise two direct reports and work closely with their real estate lending and consumer lending departments.

Job Summary: Direct the activities and perform daily management of the underwriting team. Manage the lending risk consistent with the organization's philosophy. Review loan applications to analyze for credit quality and program acceptance. Maintain adherence to mortgage loan investor guidelines. Monitor underwriting effectiveness and maintain relations with internal employees, sales staff, and external investors. Perform direct support activities of SVP, Lending. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate residential mortgage and consumer loans risk based on sound underwriting decisions
  • Provide coaching and support to direct reports
  • Manage consumer loan underwriting
  • Manage collection function for all loan types
  • The lead loan audit function
  • Approve first and second mortgage loan requests
  • Organize and monitor loan files to ensure timely processing
  • Assist in product development and vendor procurement
  • Interface/correspond directly with credit union business partners
  • Manage automated underwriting systems – DU and LP
  • Monitor and adhere to mortgage loan investor requirements
  • Ensure loan compliance at the State and Federal level
  • Submit loan files to an investor for approval 
  • Assist Loan Originators with loan fulfillment
  • Responsible for exceptional member service to every member, internal and external, every time by adhering to the service model
  • Adhere to all credit union policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Management or related field Experience:
  • Required: Minimum of three (3) years of residential mortgage underwriting experience. Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in an underwriting capacity.
  • Preferred: Five years of residential mortgage underwriting and management experience. Knowledge of FNMA/FHLMC. Knowledge/Skills:
  • Ability to perform analysis of loan requests
  • Ability to organize workflow, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and members
  • Knowledge of various credit union products, services, policies, and procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Basic knowledge of FNMA and FHLMC secondary market requirements
  • Operating knowledge of secondary market automated underwriting systems
