Exceptional Children Compliance Coordinator

Department: Polk County Schools – District Office

FLSA: Exempt

Reports To: Student Services Director / Superintendent

Supervises: Exceptional Children staff (as assigned)

Job Summary: To assist the district in maintaining high quality and compliance in the delivery of services for the Exceptional Children’s program.

Essential Functions:

  1. Ensure that the Exceptional Children program processes and plans are compliant with federal and state laws and best practices.

  2. Coordinate and document the delivery of Medicaid-eligible services to receive Medicaid reimbursement for service provision.

  3. Plan, provide, and evaluate professional development delivered to instructional and departmental staff.

  4. Ensure compliance with and maintain records of required trainings and departmental actions, including specific family requests, legal action, or mediation efforts.

  5. Compile, analyze, and prepare data to inform state and federal reporting.

  6. Assist the director with staffing plans, student placement, and program delivery.

  7. Routinely observe and provide feedback on the development and implementation of Individualized Education Program (IEP) plans, facilitation of IEP meetings, day-to-day classroom instruction, and other identified departmental functions.

  8. Assist the Director in the completion of required audits, information requests, and any action required for response to legal action.

  9. Ensure compliance with student 504 plans, and assist in 504 plan development and implementation.

  10. Participate in the District’s MTSS team.

  11. Support the work of the District’s specialists – psychologists, therapists, and behavioral staff.

  12. Maintain clear, firm, and reasonable work standards and due dates.

  13. Foster relationships with school colleagues, parents, and agencies in the larger community to support students’ learning and well-being.

  14. Be a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of his or her choices and actions on others (students, parents, and other professionals in the learning community) and who actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally.

  15. Develop a plan for professional growth and participate in staff development activities.

  16. Maintain high performance expectations for all students and staff.

  17. Attend all mandatory meetings.

  18. Serve as a positive representative of the school in the community.

  19. Other duties as assigned.

Education, experience, and skills required:

  1. Have or be eligible for NC licensure in Special Education.

  2. Possession of an advanced degree beyond the Bachelor’s level.

  3. Previous experience at the district level strongly preferred.

Terms of Employment: 11 months – District Coordinator / Director Scale

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Student Services Director and in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Licensed Personnel.
