Job Description
Join the team at Mason PUD 3! We’re currently seeking an Accounting Specialist to support our Finance department. This position is ideal for candidates with a degree in Accounting who are looking to apply their education in a public sector setting. The Accounting Specialist will support a variety of finance functions, with a strong focus on accounts payable, general ledger activity, and financial reporting.
This entry level position offers valuable exposure to governmental accounting practices and provides opportunities for growth and advancement within the department. We also offer professional development and training opportunities, along with a clear advancement pathway within the finance department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process accounts payable transactions, including invoice entry, purchase order matching, and payment processing
- Maintain accurate AP records and ensure compliance with internal controls and policies
- Assist with monthly and year-end closing processes
- Prepare journal entries and perform account reconciliations
- Assist in budget preparation, financial reporting, and audit support
- Utilize Microsoft Excel to compile, analyze, and present financial data
- Collaborate with internal departments to resolve discrepancies or respond to inquiries
Minimum Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)
- Understanding of financial theory, accounting principles, and GAAP
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and advanced formulas
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- 0–2 years of professional accounting experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with governmental accounting standards

Salary Range:
Minimum to Midpoint Pay Range ($66,880 – $83,600 per year): For new hires to the position and the District, pay generally starts at the minimum, though qualifications and experience may be considered. Increases within this range occur over time based on demonstrated proficiency and satisfactory performance.
Midpoint to Maximum Pay Range ($83,600 – $100,320 per year): Pay above the midpoint to the maximum is typically reserved for employees with sustained performance and established longevity in the position at the District.
